What Is JUVÉDERM and How Does It Work?

JUVÉDERM is a dermal filler approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in 2006 for cosmetic use. Dermal fillers work differently than other anti-aging injectables. Rather than prevent the muscle contractions that cause wrinkles, fillers add volume and plumpness to the targeted region of the face.

JUVÉDERM fillers consist mainly of hyaluronic acid, a moisture-binding sugar molecule that is produced naturally in the body and promotes skin elasticity.  As we age, the body produces less collagen and hyaluronic acid, reducing the quality of the skin and leading to folds and wrinkles. Injecting JUVÉDERM into specific treatment areas restores elasticity and volume to the skin and rejuvenates your appearance.

We find that JUVÉDERM® Ultra XC is one of the best options, particularly when treating the lips and mouth. Ultra XC adds natural-looking plumpness to thin lips and smooths the appearance of perioral lines. The filler lasts about 12 months, after which the hyaluronic acid is absorbed by the body. If you decide after a year you want to maintain the results, we can repeat your Ultra XC treatment or discuss alternative injectables.
